Horse gram/ kulthi/ Hurulikaalu Dosa

Horsegram is a high nutrient filled lentils, which has a lot of health benefits. It helps in weight loss, diabetes control, for better digestion, Asthma, bronchitis, you name it & it has a remedy for all. But I feel it's not being used to the fullest to get the best of it.

Ingredients :

Dosa rice- 2 cups

Horsegram- 1/2 cup

Poha/avalakki(beaten rice)- a fist-full

Methi(fenugreek) seeds- 1 tsp


  1. Soak all the ingredients together,( after washing couple of times) for 3- 4 hours.

  2. Strain the water and grind it to a smooth batter consistency using little water,do not add more water at once using a mixer-grinder or a large blender mixer.

  3. Ferment it like normal dosa batter(see Note).

  4. Make dosas after adding the required amount of salt and adjust the consistency of the batter by adding water only if required.


Note: The working people, can soak it before leaving to office, & grind it once you´re back home. Ferment it overnight, the batter is ready for the next day.

Cook the dosas in a medium flame to get a crispy dosa, spread the dosa as thin as possible.

Serve it with your choice of accomplishments.
